Embody your future
A rush of adrenaline and we lift the car. A surge of creativity and the proposal writes itself. Those bursts of genius, the feeling of flow. Who are we when that happens? And what if we could access this “other” person more intentionally. Come work with me and you’ll learn how.
Searching for how to have a peak experience or improve performance can be like trying to squeeze more from the same fruit. And if you get trained in a new skill or try to add a new behavior to your tool box without changing your identity, it’s a recipe for frustration and disappointment. At best you get mediocre results; at worst you become a pretender.
For new skills and new abilities to take root, it is essential to expand who you are, to bring a new identity on the scene. The skills you already have will not disappear, but they will also not crowd out the new. But by learning who you are, taking the step you can make room to become the next you.
Your influence in the deep matrix of your identity gives new possibilities a place to nest and a new identity can begin to take shape. What emerges is the next you. This is more than reinventing; this is evolving.
Evolving your identity isn’t a one-time event; the process of becoming is both a journey and an ever-present opportunity. But it takes having a supportive guide, someone who knows the territory and how to navigate it. That’s why I’m here. I’ve been engaging the dimensions and dynamics of identity for more than 20 years, and I can help you learn how to support this practice in yourself. And this is about more than hopes and aspirations; this is the practice of embodying your future.
The process
Discover
We start by exploring who you are now, where you’ll be evolving from. This includes examining your body's innate energy and drive, the ranges you allow yourself for living that drive, and the myths and logic you've developed along the way.
Learn
Together, we’ll learn how you have woven the elements of your identity together, and how you can work to shift them to allow for more possibility.
Practice
Just like with a musical instrument or a new sport, change and growth don’t occur without practice. I’ll teach you the steps to re-weave the fundamentals of how you are who you are and how to repeat the process on your own.
Transition
Discovering your superpowers is exhilarating. But even Wonder Woman and Black Panther take breaks from exerting their powers. You’ll learn how to smoothly transition along the different ranges of who you can be in any situation.
For Executives and Organizations
How many times have we seen a new recruit, a long-term employee or struggling team suddenly show a spark of promise, yet be unable to take the next step and turn their potential into reality? New dynamics and new opportunities need new players to give them life. Help yourself or your team grow from now into next, into a future where potential becomes innovation, a dynamic team, a new business horizon.
For executives, a guided focus on your actions and mental frameworks can liberate deeply embedded patterns and offer alternatives in your effectiveness, as actor, listener and leader. And bringing possibilities to life in yourself enlivens your presence and the potential for your organization. Learning the primary elements of body, behavior and conceptual framework, as well as how to influence them are essential steps to introducing change and growth.
We meet in my office or yours to discuss your goals and concerns and then clarify the actions and thinking that are fundamental to who you are. Together we map these fundamental patterns and begin to develop a landscape of your identity. With practice, you’ll learn to identify and influence elements that are through-lines in your patterns of identity and make shifts that have far-reaching effects on both your work life and your personal life.
My work with teams has a similar cadence and structure, though slightly different in execution. But the goal is the same: identifying and engaging the team’s patterns and then learn to influence those patterns so a new group identity can emerge.
For Athletes and Teams
As a successful athlete, you have a thirst for continuous improvement that’s proven by your years of sweat and strain in early morning workouts, countless repetitions of shots and swings, and long sessions of strategizing and memorizing plays.
This striving, "I want more" attitude is an almost unstoppable force. But a primary yet often misunderstood roadblock in any athlete's journey arises when brain and body reach the limits of their ability to respond to one another. The good news is this is not the end of your potential; you are actually pushing up against the very frame that has supported you and that frame can be evolved.
Bringing malleability to the fabric of your identity introduces new horizons of movement and responsiveness and a vitality that is now a force in your training and ability to grow. This is the road to becoming the athlete of your future and achieving new levels of satisfaction in your performance.
Whether we meet on the field, on the court, in the training room or in my office, we’ll explore and engage your somatic-emotional matrix, identify the patterns and re-engage them and then practice adding new dimensions in your body-brain dialogue. Our mind-body “training” work together will create stability and repeatability, making them available when it comes time to perform. I also work with sports teams as a group to help unify, become a more highly attuned “body” that has the cohesive spirit needed to succeed.
“I have found in my personal and business life that I may not always be as honest or direct with myself as I should be and I don’t think I’m alone. Through that acute listening, Peter ever so gingerly (but with a stick if needed) leads you to the answers that you may not find on your own. He helped me to find the tools within myself—both emotional and intellectual—to improve my decision making process and results.”
